FUNDING, TRAINING, AND SUPPORT WILL BOLSTER COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS CREATING OR CONTINUING HUBS TO SERVE HUNDREDS OF DC’S MOST VULNERABLE STUDENTS

WASHINGTON, DC (Nov. 28, 2022)CityTutor DC has selected seven community-based organizations as 2022-2023 CityTutor Hubs, leveraging these organization’s existing relationships in their communities to provide high-impact tutoring for students throughout DC. The Hubs will add to or build upon last year’s high-impact tutoring—a research-based practice of supplementing classroom instruction in a one-on-one or small group setting where a trained, quality tutor and student meet frequently and consistently to work on math or literacy skills.

At CityTutor Hubs, high-impact tutoring takes place alongside other programming that promotes overall student well-being, such as sports, mentoring, homework help, and arts enrichment. The selected Hubs will be supported by CityTutor DC with resources, training, and a cohort of peers.

CityTutor DC Executive Director, Cat Peretti feels confident that this year’s Hubs can infuse important academic support into their communities and serve our most vulnerable student populations.

“We know that trusted community-based organizations can be powerful partners in this work to serve kids holistically, and we are excited to elevate the academic programming they can offer,” said Peretti.

This year’s Hubs will each support at least 50 students and include:

  • Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington (Ward 7 and 8)
  • DC SCORES (Ward 4, 5 and 6)
  • The Fishing School (Ward 4 and 7)
  • GOODProjects (Ward 6)
  • Higher Achievement (Ward 1 and 4)
  • Horton’s Kids (Ward 8)
  • Mary’s Center (Ward 1)

In 2021-2022, our Hubs supported over 300 students with high-impact tutoring and wrap-around supports and included:
