The Fishing School to Continue as CityTutor Hub

The Fishing School launched one of the first CityTutor Hubs in 2021 and will continue this school year, providing high-impact early literacy tutoring to students at Kimball Elementary School in Ward 7 and John Lewis Elementary School in Ward 4.

Leo Givs, Executive Director of The Fishing School, is excited to continue partnering with CityTutor DC and continue their high-impact tutoring Hub for early literacy interventions.

“We at The Fishing School recognize the challenging environments that our students grow up in and that the barriers they face can prevent them from achieving academic and personal success,” Givs said. “Continuing as a CityTutor Hub will allow us to continue to serve and uplift our students, while deepening our impact in underserved communities.”

About The Fishing School

The Fishing School believes that children succeed in school when they receive high-quality supports in math and reading, develop sound life skills, and have engaged parents. The Fishing School’s after school and summer camp program provides enrichment activities designed to improve students’ academic performance and build critical social and emotional skills. Each year, they serve more than 400 students from Title-I-eligible schools across DC with continuous, out-of-school-time programming.
