WASHINGTON, DC (Oct. 4th, 2023) – Raising A Village, in partnership with CityTutor DC, offers Driven 2 Succeed (D2S), a youth-development program for K-12 students providing academic interventions in math and literacy, social-emotional learning, and college and career readiness delivered both during and after school.
“In the last three years, the RAV Driven 2 Succeed tutoring program has served 2,000 children and families locally. Overall, we have seen 80% of our students show positive grade increases, 85% have perfect attendance, and 92% complete all homework and classwork assignments on time,” said Jaleesa Hall, founder of Raising A Village.
Raising A Village also implemented a pilot using the CityTutor DC 6th Grade Math curriculum. As a result of the pilot, tutors reported that they felt better resourced and more effective in their roles. Because the curricular resources gave tutors a better sense of what to teach and how to teach it to ensure alignment with student’s core classes, all tutors serving 6th grade students will use it. “The materials and training that the CityTutor team delivered for Raising A Village have been an invaluable part of our D2S programming,” says Hall.
Last year, the D2S program activated almost 100 tutors to provide high-impact tutoring to over 300 K-12 students in ELA and math at nine of DCPS’s greatest needs schools in Wards 1, 4, 7 and 8. As a result, more students tutored through Raising A Village met their academic growth goals than those without. With an expansion underway, 460 students will receive high-impact tutoring in the D2S program this school year.
